Dog Training Techniques: Recognizing good play

There are lots of techniques dog trainers need, but understanding dog body language is one of the most important. In this video, most people would know that this is play, but would they know why? That's where having good training technique will really help you.

The two terriers - and terrier play can be very iffy! - are playing. The blond .terrior is older, the black and white terrier is quite young. But, they're playing nicely with each other although, if one or the other didn't have the skill to understand what is happening, it could have gone very wrong.

The way we know this is good play is because of the position exchanges. As you watch the video, you'll see first one is on top, then the other is on top. And this goes on throughout the play session.

If only one dog had been on top, it could still be play, but it probably wouldn't be good play. The dog that is on top all the time is probably bullying the other dog, somewhat. A confident, skilled dog, won't tolerate it, but a less confident dog can be intimidated,
