This is a Lab puppy named Tobey that has come for dog training due to severe food aggression at home, he has even bitten a couple people. He's a Sweet boy with a ton of potential and his family are at a loss with trying to stop food aggression. Please share this video with anyone who needs help with food aggression
It's important to understand the foundation and stem of why this behavior even exists. Thomas breaks down why the aggression is occurring which is from the lack of impulse control and leadership. When Tobey sees anything he wants we lunges, grabs and given the opportunity he would run away with it. So we broke it down in different exercises how to manage the behavior. We certainly aren't trying to teach the dog he cannot have food, we are teaching him when he does have food the leave it command means he has to then stop what he's doing and back off.
SO with all that being said, we teach the leave it command and the place command to manage the situation. This is NOT the only way to teach a dog leave it, however in this case, when kids are involved, Thomas tries to manage the situation NOW!
