“So when can we stop using the tools?” That’s a question we get asked a lot when it comes to remote collars/prong collars/muzzles/any other training tool that has helped the dog find success. Our answer is always “why would you ever want to?” Our goal is not to be tool free, our goal is for owners to be successful with their dogs forever. There are way too many variables in the real world, off-leash, that could end up very badly for your dog if they decide to blow off just one command. Having a back up plan isn’t a sign of poor training, it’s a sign of responsible dog ownership. All it takes is one squirrel, one deer, one car, to change the trajectory of you and your dogs life forever. If you are having tons of success using a certain tool or training technique, why would you ever stop? Don’t let your own ego or other people’s opinions get in the way of your success. Dog ownership is a lot of work as it is. Why not make it as enjoyable and carefree as possible knowing you have a solid safety-net for your dog at all times.
