What do you do about a multi dog household and adding another dog into the mix. How can you transition easily. Maintaining a structured household is the most important place to start. Crate training and duration commands should be part of that structure. Teaching the dogs to exist around each other rather than wanting them to be friends should be the goal. Any hints of bad behavior should be corrected instantly.

Hi Jeff,

I have been watching your videos and have been motivated to start my own training company. I am still mew and will never say I know everything and I am about to do something I have never done before and add a new dog that is not a puppy to my existing pack.

I currently have a 1 yo intact male doberman and a 6 yo intact female min pin chi cross. As you can see adding the pup with the older dog was easy as he was added when he was 7 wwks old but now we are in a position take on another dog.

The new guy is a neutered male German Shepherd that is at least 3 yo. From what I have seen he is OK with the dogs but I am unsure of the best way to add him to the existing pack.

My plan is to take the pack to him and have a into walk where he is up font giving them the opportunity to smell from a distance then letting the other dogs pass and giving him the same opportunity with no "meeting" on leash, but some structured social time and some group training (2 dogs in place with one dog working ect) and some pack walks as often as I can get them all out at once.

I am pretty sure this is the best way to proceed but would love any input from you about the best way to add to the pack (you do have the biggest one I have seen in a while lol).

Thanks

Michelle
